Transnational Issues
Governments and international institutions face complex transnational challenges.
To fully understand and address them requires multiple perspectives, in-depth knowledge and creative thinking. We have extensive experience in providing public sector organisations
with external analysis that complements their own research.
Our wide-ranging network of experts enables great flexibility in undertaking multi-disciplinary analysis of issues that cut across countries and topics,
making it possible to identify emerging themes, threats and opportunities. We assess the implications for our clients of a variety of transnational issues, including:
- terrorism
- political radicalisation
- religion
- armed conflict
- weapons proliferation
- criminal networks
- migration and demographics
- trade
- economic innovation systems
- investment flows
- climate change
- science & technology
We have particularly strong experience and expertise in the following issues.
Terrorism
We regularly provide studies and workshops focused on various aspects of transnational terrorism. We have carried out analysis of
terrorism risks in a wide range of countries, assessed various state policies for combating terrorism, analysed media coverage of terrorism and considered the risk posed by self-starter terrorist cells. Our analysis has covered global groups such as al-Qaida
as well as regionally or nationally focused groups that engage in terrorism. In addition, we have conducted extensive analysis into the process of radicalisation and its implications for terrorist threats.
Innovation
We frequently conduct analysis on innovation systems in different countries, focusing on the processes by which intellectual concepts are moved towards commercialisation for the benefit of a national economy. This kind of analysis often also addresses implications for economic competitiveness and transnational flows of technology and knowledge.
Climate Change
We regularly carry out analytical studies on key trends such as climate change and other related environmental challenges, as well as the implications of global warming for energy, demographics, health, finance, economics and trade. More on our
Sustainability Practice.
Migration
We often conduct analysis on the topic of international migration, with a focus on the economic and policy factors behind the movement of talented
workers. Our work in this area has included an assessment of labour migration policy in several countries - based on a number of key features needed to meet and balance the needs of employers and migrant workers - as well as an analysis of the socio-economic characteristics of Indian talent migration to key industrialised countries.
